As a young boy growing up I struggled with sleepwalking. It was not uncommon (on any given night) that I might be found wondering around in the house in some sort of stupor. My mother would somehow find me and take me back to bed and in the morning I had no recollection of the event. There’s a spiritual correlation here. Each moment that we live outside the awareness of God’s presence….it’s a kind of spiritual sleepwalking. The apostle Paul wrote,
“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
(Ephesians 5:14 NIV)
If we are walking around in life and have no awareness of God’s presence (“we’re dead”), we are essentially “in a (spiritual) sleepwalking stupor.” Wake up and see all that God has for you….and God will shine on you!
