This past summer while attending a seminar in Naples, Florida, I decided to take a “day trip” to Miami and do a bit of sightseeing. In the process, I stopped by a very popular tattoo shop where the show Miami Ink was filmed. Although I don’t have a tattoo, I do find these places to be fascinating. The stories people share behind the imagery is usually unique and interesting It somewhat reminds me of a comment we used to make in Public Safety about employees having a “career tattoo.” The meaning is simple…. whether you work hard, are lazy, competent or incompetent, likable or outcast, you will be remembered! It’s your career tattoo! I was talking with a lady at church this AM that told me of someone who had the words “Hell Bound” tattooed on his body. An intriguing message to say the least! But it’s not just ink on your body that sends out a message. It’s our behavior, expertise, compassion (or lack of), and the list goes on and on. 2 Thessalonians 2: 10 says, “if a man will not work, he shall not eat.” Even someone who is lazy and does not work (provide) will have a career tattoo. We send all types of messages out to others (verbal, non-verbal, posturing, facial expressions, and yes…tattoos). What does your life say to others? I’ve had to ask this difficult question and maybe it’s time you asked yourself?
